In 1634, the monks of St. Francis of Paula started a brewery that made a very malty beer to sustain them during Lent. They called their brew Salvator, Latin for the Savior. The brewery is no longer owned by the monks, but the Pauliner Brewery near Munich, Germany still makes Salvator.
Salvator, a Double Bock, has an alcohol content of 7.5% by volume.
